A GENERATION THAT DOESN'T EAT BREAKFAST CONVENIENCE STORE NEWS 01/06
A new consumer survey reveals alarming statistics showing that even though almost all Americans (96%) believe consuming a nutritious breakfast is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, their behavior demonstrates otherwise. Even more daunting is the fact that Americans have raised a generation that does not eat breakfast. Young adults are even more likely to spend less time eating breakfast or to skip breakfast altogether than their older counterparts, according to the State of the American Breakfast survey, which studied the breakfast habits and trends of American adults. According to the survey, 25% of Americans say they eat breakfast only three out of five weekdays, and if they do eat breakfast, most spend a minimal amount of time doing so. KRC Research conducted the study on behalf of America's Breakfast Council.
So what can we do about this?
Make it easy to grab & go!
A banana, apple oranges, pears, bunches of grapes-just wash & go! Boil extra eggs for the morning dash. Keep convenience single serving yogurts in the fridge or make your own-what is so hard about divvying up a large container into smaller ones for the family? It’s not only more economical, you can control the portion sizes, less waste & less chance of overeating! Throw in a whole grain bagel or a muffin while you are grabbing your coffee and you are set. Even if you don’t eat all this at one sitting-grabbing these goodies in the morning will provide you with a healthy snack during the day, especially if you also fall into the group that skips lunch…but that’s another story!
