April showers bring May flowers, Do we need an excuse to go outside?

Finally, we can shed the heavy coats , dark colours and all the other restrictions that cold weather and heavy garments provide. The warmer weather allows us to walk more often and leave the car behind.

Studies have shown that people living in traditional or older cities generally get more exercise just going through their daily routines than their suburban counterparts. City dwellers take more public transit, walk to corner stores and in general expend more energy ( calories ) just getting on with their daily life. This also applies to those living in small communities such as college campuses and villages where people routinely bicycle or walk to classes, work or social commitments . Exercise is built into their lifestyles , they get their exercise just going through life’s routines , would it not the nice if everything could seem so natural .

As spring approaches, take advantage of the longer and the warmer weather get outside; whether it’ s to start working our gardens, to get some fresh air, or just to get them to know the neighborhood again; get outdoors! A bit of gardening not only stretches your muscles that will reward you with a beautiful yard that will blossom later in this season .

If you have been in hibernation all winter or if you are a couch potato, start slow and easy: give your body time to adjust, start with small steps such as a walk around the block and gradually build up your endurance. Remember is not only the intensity of the frequency that you exercise at, it is that you exercise on a regular basis, a regular routine at the pace of slow and steady will do your body more good than being a weekend warrior . In fact most injuries occur on the weekends when people try to cram an entire week of activities into two short days, enjoy your weekends safely.
